>>NETBALL SUMMARY RULES

1.         Team numbers: Six (6) players per team, plus three (3) substitutes.  In the case of mixed netball, each team may have a maximum of three (3) males and a minimum of two (2) males on the court at any one time.  The minimum number a team can take to the Court with is four (4) players.

2.      The Playing Areas, Playing Positions and Boundaries: The participating players shall take up their positions on the Court as per 6-A-Side Indoor Netball Rules.

3.      Nets:

3.1     Side, back and roof nets form part of the playing area.  Players may use the nets to direct the ball to another player.

3.2      When the GS or GA is wholly within the goal circle and shooting for goal and the ball first touches or rebounds from the goal ring and then touches the back net, the ball shall remain in play.  Should the ball subsequently pass through the goal ring after first touching the goal ring and then the back net, a goal shall be scored.

3.3      A player may not deliberately hold the nets or use the nets to “push off” to gain advantage.  In addition no player may step, land or jump into the nets.  Any infringement will result in a Penalty Pass to the opposing team where the infringement occurs.

3.4  A player may not block another player on the net.  This will result in a penalty for obstruction.

4.         The toss up: The two players contesting the ball must attempt to grab the ball with two hands.  If a player attempts to hit or bat the ball, a Penalty Pass shall be awarded to the non-offending team.

5.         Obstruction: In general play a player may not take up a position to interfere with or block an opposition player.

6.      Play in the Goal Circle: If a foot of the GS or GA lands outside the Goal Circle, the player cannot move into the Goal Circle and shoot.  The player must pass.

7.      Behaviour code:

7.1     The Umpire’s interpretation of any rules shall be final.

7.2     Any player engaging in disorderly conduct shall receive a warning.  If behaviour continues they shall be sent from the Court and shall not resume play until at least the completion of that half or at the umpire’s discretion.  No substitution will be permitted for that player.

8.         Mixed teams:

8.1     Maximum of three (3) males per team on the court.

8.2     A male player must take up position in each court third.

8.3     Male players must take up position against opposition male players.  Mixed teams that are short of a male player must position a male player in the WA or WD position first.  NOTE.  The first team to pay their game fees (failing which the first complete team on Court) will have the choice of where to position their players.  The opposing team will have to position their male players accordingly.

9.      Substitution/Team change:  A substitution or team change may be made after a goal is scored, after an interval, or after a stoppage of play for an injury.  A maximum of 3 substitutions or team changes may be made by each team during a game.  The opposing captain and Umpire must be notified of any team changes.

10.     Dress:

10.2   Playing apparel deemed not to be in the good image of Action Netball is not allowed ie bare feet, stockinged feet, jeans, black soled marking shoes, everyday footwear.
